With the ever increasing cost of vehicle ownership, for most organisations fleet management is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. Due to poor fleet management practices, your organisation's fleet may be costing up to 40% more than it should be. Applying the 10 : 1 income to expenses rule of thumb then an organisation will need to generate $10 of sales to cover $1 of expenses. In the current global recession, generating sales is not easy, but if an organisation wishes to improve…

Having just returned from an inspiring trip to New York City, I got thinking about New Yorkers’ capacity to be so generous and friendly. I have come to the conclusion they suffer from deep seated and abundant self-esteem and they express it in everything they say and do! They offer you a smiling and congenial face, not only comfortable in who they are but ready to share their great city with you. They know their worth and celebrate it. They are brilliant at generating the perception they…

Thursday, October 21, 2010SPAM OR NOT ?
From the desk of John Brandow
Most people with an own domain might find that SPAM are on the increase. There are a lot of so called reputable businesses out there making use of SPAM creators (my definition). What is a spam creator? It is someone making it their business to harvest by any means possible email addresses and then assuring their high profiled clients (like some insurance companies - names available) that everything they do is above…

Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale said on Friday called for a strong partnership between government, labour, business and civil society to grow the South African economy, saying that a second recession would be "detrimental". Speaking at the yearly meeting of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Sacci) in Johannesburg, the Minister noted that some analysts were predicting a W-shaped recovery, instead of the expected U-shaped economic recovery.
"At our current…

I have posted this question on Inner Circle and have received a very helpful response. Do you have another view on this?
For some reason I was raised with the idea that one has to sort out this kind of issue by oneself, thus not involving anybody else, least of all the client! The same can be said of when one encounters a mistake or issue. I have learned the hard way that keeping quiet about a mistake more often than not, causes bigger and more mistakes!
It seems that…

SOUTH AFRICAN TOURISM is changing the face of global destination marketing forever with an exciting new campaign that launches this month.
A Nigerian couple, Seun and Abimbola (Bimbo) Somolu featured prominently in the campaign. Others are Andrew Smith and Hannah St Paul from the UK, Artie and Carol Rosenblatt from the US, and from India, Gurjap Singh and Radha Brahmbhatt.

On the spur of the moment we developed and presented a practical Marketing course focussing on the electronic media and the 90 day action marketing plan. The response from the 16 attendees at the trial run totally bouled me out. Not one single negative word and various requests to do it again ! I think the need is there to demistify marketing.
The best part of the whole thing is the definition we found for marketing (I really could not remember who the author was - if you find him…

Never ever trust Banks. They do not have your well being at heart. This morning in the Rapport newspaper there was another article where the following came out : "Irrespective of the fact that I was negotiating with the bank (FNB) and during that process they attached and sold my house on auction" Is this an isolated incident? You can bet your life on it that is not. My own experience just last month is another. My bank (ABSA) was in possession of a bank guarantee from a buyer of my property…
